Fuel
Diesel comes in two flavours: Bio Solar and Dex. Bio Solar is subsidized and costs about EUR 0.34
per liter, Dex twice as much. On Bali and Java Bio Solar is widely available, on Timor Barat, Flores,
Sumbawa and Lombok it is found on reasonable distances. We have come across various fuel stations
that were out of stock or closed. On Kalimantan only a third or so of the fuel station sold Bio Solar, the
rest only Dex. If Bio Solar was solved there were always long queues of trucks waiting to get it.
Insurance:

Insurance
We have not been able to find an insurance and learnt that most Indonesian don’t have
insurance either.

Roads
Even the major roads on Timor, Flores, Sumbawa and Lombok were often in narrow, with
potholes and rising or declining very steeply. Most roads on Bali in Java were better, but very busy. Roads on Kalimantan were best: relatively wide and flat and not too crowded.

Ferries
See our shipments for details of internal crossings in Indonesia.

Money
Credit cards are accepted at very few places, ATMs are widely available.

Corruption and crime
No incidents
