Rain was pouring during the entire process. CdP was not needed. The Cambodia TIP was made for us, but you can now do it electronically yourself. We paid THB 1700 per person for the visas and THB 20 per person for a health document. Photos were not needed. We let someone in civilian clothes arrange our visas who in hindsight appeared to be a fixer who seriously overcharged and insisted on getting THB. The correct steps would have been: (1) Show vaccination documents at window a (2) Buy a visa at window b (3) Let Immigration stamp your visa at window c (4) Get or show your TIP at window d (5) Provide Police with all driver and vehicle information again at window e. All officials wear uniforms and work from behind windows. Don’t deal with civilians.

We paid USD 3 for the vehicle exit document in Cambodia (they asked 20).
Fuel
Fuel: widely generally available, credit cards generally not accepted. many fuel stations also sell LPG and will fill gas containers.
Insurance
Insurance is not required for non-commercial vehicles. We didn’t get insurance.
Roads
Roads, also between the bigger cities varied from good to heavily potholed. At many places road construction was in progress.
Money
Credit cards are not generally accepted. ATM’s are abundant. Fees for cash withdraws are high and identical for every bank.
Corruption and crime
At the border with Laos the officers in charge of the TIP tried to charge us USD 20 for an extra export paper.
