Australia

Entry Document
We got a multiple entry visa that is valid for twelve months with a maximum stay per entry of 6 months. We obtained it through the website of Australian Immigration. The fee was about AUD 150 per visa. The site showed that the application return time would be 20 to 30 days, but we had it in a couple of minutes. After we returned from Australia while we were still in the validity period of the first visa, we applied for a new 6 months visa in the same way as the first one. Again we obtained it immediately.

Vehicle Import and Export
Detailed information about car preparation and import can be found here. Information about car storage is here. Information about extension if the import permit is here.

Fuel
Outside the cities fuel stations are reliable but far apart, so proper planning is required. We used OpenStreetMap for planning. Price difference for a liter diesel can be as much as AUD 1 between Sydney and a roadhouse in the Outback.

Insurance
See here for insurance details.

Roads
Main roads are generally good and quiet. Dirt roads can be challenging for your tyres (we had as many flat tyres in 20,000 km Australia as we had in 120,000 km Africa and South America).

Money
VISA and Mastercard are widely accepted and ATMs can be found at many places. ATM fees can be substantial.

Corruption and crime
No incidents
